Nevada Museum of Art - Museum School Classes

KINDERCAMP: UNDERWATER & OUTER SPACE
Children will explore the wonders of sea life and the frontiers of space through a variety of art projects in this week’s camp. Kids will use paint, paper, ceramics and other materials to reflect on creative worlds while developing their basic art skills.

WEAVING: TRIANGLE LOOM
In this two-day workshop, students will learn how to weave using a 4-foot loom. This technique is easier and produces a more supple fabric than traditional triangle loom weaving. It can be used to produce a shawl, scarf, baby blanket or throw. The class will learn how to set up a jig, embellish the weaving, join woven triangles and other finishing techniques. The class materials include a hand-made loom to keep at a deeply discounted price. No previous experience is necessary.

COSTUME MAKING: GET READY FOR BURNING MAN
Bring in some old clothes to create your own costume for Burning Man with costume-maker and longtime burner Geoffrey Nelson. Use battery-operated electroluminescent wire and a buttoneer to embellish a piece of clothing so that it will glow in the dark. Cover a hat with imitation fur and sequins and make accessories such as bracelets, necklaces and anklets out of lights. Electroluminescent wire and other materials will be available for purchase during the workshop, along with many other free embellishments. Contributions and bartering of supplies is encouraged.

DRAWING II
Offered to intermediate and continuing Drawing I students, Drawing II is an exploration of linear perspective as applied to the elements of a landscape composition. Students will then use these compositional methods to accompany an introduction to portraiture. Observational drawing techniques will be employed to render a head study from a live model. Instruction will also be provided through demonstrations and slide presentations.

AIRBRUSH I & II: BEGINNING / INTERMEDIATE AIRBRUSHING
In this beginning to intermediate class, students will learn basic airbrushing techniques through step-by-step demonstrations. Students will become skilled in this versatile medium, including equipment and materials, paints, freehand application, color gradation, rendering texture and more. Enrollment is limited to 8.
