Create a miniature pine needle basket using natural materials. Learn from the basket making tradition of Audrey Frank’s native Nevadan Washoe/Paiute culture. Explore weaving methods by combining pine needles, Sinew and raffia in this one-day workshop.

Miniature Pine Needle Baskets – Part II

Sunday, October 18 / 10 am – 2 pm

This workshop is designed for students who have completed the first part of “Miniature Pine Needle Baskets.” Continuing students will have the opportunity to complete a work in progress or start a new miniature basket. Special instruction will include direction on completing a lid using natural materials. Students will learn from the basket making tradition of Audrey Frank’s native Nevadan Washoe/Paiute culture. Lidded baskets will combine pine needles, sinew and raffia in this one-day workshop.

Burden Basket Weaving with Sue Coleman

Saturday and Sunday, November 7 and 8 / 10 am – 4 pm

Join Sue Coleman, one of Nevada’s preeminent Washoe basket weavers, in a two-day workshop exploring the tradition and techniques of Washoe basket weaving. Students will work with dyed and natural reed to create a conically shaped burden basket. Suggested Supply List: 

  • Awl
  • Scissors (5-6″ are good)
  • Hand Towel
  • Smaller Spray Bottle
  • Knife (paring knives work well)
  • Sack lunch or money to place a to-go order with Chez Louie
