Young Artist Series: Character Design and Development

The Young Artist Series is for kids ages 11 – 15*

Want to learn some of the secrets behind your favorite characters design and even create your own? This class will teach you some basic techniques used by character designers to help make your characters stand out through their design. If you love comic’s, video games, or just love characters this is the class for you. This is an open studio course designed to teach students how to ask questions and design your own character! From charismatic hero’s to dastardly villains and all the weirdness in-between come join artist C.J. Norris as he introduces you to the wonderful world of character design.

Drawing Techniques: Line and Composition

Students will enjoy this introductory level course designed to teach basic drawing techniques while focusing on line work, value scales and composition. This class is designed to provide a foundation for drawing, teaching students how to realistically draw objects within an environment. Each class will focus on different drawing techniques and strategies, beginning with value scale exercises and moving towards rendering and shading three dimensional objects in an engaging composition.

Drawing Techniques: Shape and Form

Students will enjoy this course designed to emphasize observational drawing to understand shape and form. In this course, students will improve their observational drawing techniques by first working on rendering shapes within the still life. Later on, students will work towards creating dynamic compositions while diving deep into rendering complex shapes, forms and textures. This class is designed to provide a strong introductory foundation for beginning drawing students and a refresher for more advanced students.
