Natural Illustration: Leaf Structures in Pen and Ink

Sunday, August 19 / 10 am – 3 pm

In this intermediate to advanced level class, students will learn the basics of natural illustration drawing with a focus on leaf structures and pen-and-ink drawing. Students will learn about plant anatomy and venous structures, using magnifying glasses to scrutinize and illustrate details. Students will learn how to use pen-and-ink to create many types of detail and texture. Some leaf specimens will be provided to draw from life along with photo reference materials. A basic understanding of drawing techniques is advised.

Natural Illustration: Summer Succulents in Watercolor and Colored Pencil

Sunday, July 15 / 10 am – 3 pm

In this intermediate to advanced level class, students will learn the basics of natural illustration drawing with a focus on summer succulents and mixed media (watercolor and prismacolor). Students will learn about many types of succulents, their natural habitats, and creatures whom interact or co-habitate with succulents. Students will create a final drawing of a chosen succulent in a natural environment. Succulent specimens will be provided to draw from life along with photo reference materials. *Basic understanding of watercolor and/or colored pencils techniques advised.

Sunday, May 6 / 10 am – 3 pm

In this intermediate to advanced class, students will learn the basics of natural illustration drawing with a focus on bee/wasp illustration using graphite pencils. Students will learn about bee/wasp anatomy, creating a final work illustrating the bee/wasp and two chosen details on the insect. Specimens of bee and wasps will be provided to draw from life, as well as photo reference materials. *Students should have some drawing experience and should be familiar with basic graphite pencil techniques.
