Painting Open Studio

Wherever you are in your artistic process we all need dedicated time and space to work on our art. The instructor will demo a new technique each week for those who are interested. This class offers guided time to work on and complete your oil or acrylic paintings. Each student is encouraged to bring what they are currently working on, pick a new subject or have the instructor help them to find one. The experienced instructor will be giving individual coaching to help each student to the next level of their artistic journey.

Watercolor for Beginners: Winter Landscapes

CANCELED: Learn about composition in painting and develop your watercolor skills while painting a winter landscape. This class will introduce different winter landscape elements such as snowy fields with vegetation, snow covered trees and barns in a few smaller paintings demonstrating several different compositional rules. During the last session students will use the knowledge of both topics to create their own unique winter scene. This class is ideas for beginners, or those wishing to refresh their skills.

Introduction to Watercolors

This class is designed for anyone who would like to explore the medium of watercolor without the commitment.  Learn techniques such as washes, glazing, wet on wet and much more.  Find out if watercolor is for you.  The class is great for beginners who would like to experiment with watercolor techniques in an instructive setting. Watercolor Geraniums: From Studies to Composition

CANCELED: Using potted geraniums as subjects, students will learn the process of creating compositions from their own studies.  Wet and dry techniques, hard and soft edges, and texturing will be explored.  Watercolor experience is recommended.

Stylized African Animals in Acrylic

Using bold colors, modern patterns and engaging compositions, students will use acrylic paint combined with colored pencil to create inspired portraits of African animals. In this two-day intensive, student will work with basic drawing skills, contour lines, loose gridding and blocking techniques to layout the portraits on wooden panels. Final pieces will be completed in acrylic. Each student can expect to complete a 18” x 24” wooden panel or two in this workshop. All materials are provided with registration.  Students may work from a selection of provided photos or are welcome to bring their own photos for reference.

Watercolor: Open Studio

This intermediate level open studio class is designed for returning students and experienced students. Students should have a personal work in progress to work towards completing in this fun and social series. Each class will begin with a short lesson addressing a challenge or technique followed by open studio time to continue work on personal projects. Instructor will be on hand to assist with challenges, offer critique, instruction, and encouragement.

Color Studies in Watercolor

Translucence is at the heart of watercolor painting. Learn to chart and mix your colors to keep the beautiful luminosity of the medium. This class includes color charting both wet and dry, mixing triads for unusual color, and learning to combine warm and cool hues. An excellent class for both the beginner and advanced student.

Botanical Illustration: Winter Gourds

Learn the techniques of botanical illustration to capture the bounty of winter gourds in watercolor.  Students with watercolor experience and those new to watercolor are welcome.
