Autumn Leaves in Watercolor

Capture the beauty of autumn leaves. Using the techniques of botanical illustration learn to create pictures and cards in watercolor, pencil and ink. This class is open to all levels.

Watercolor: Open Studio

Tuesdays, October 16 – November 6 / 9 am – 12 pm

This intermediate level open studio class is designed for returning students and experienced students. Students should have a personal work in progress to work towards completing in this fun and social series. Each class will begin with a short lesson addressing a challenge or technique followed by open studio time to continue work on personal projects. Instructor will be on hand to assist with challenges, offer critique, instruction, and encouragement. 

Supply list:

Please bring any supplies you own for your specific project. A recommended basic supply list is as follows:

Natural Illustration: Summer Succulents in Watercolor and Colored Pencil

In this intermediate to advanced level class, students will learn the basics of natural illustration drawing with a focus on summer succulents and mixed media (watercolor and prismacolor). Students will learn about many types of succulents, their natural habitats, and creatures whom interact or co-habitate with succulents. Students will create a final drawing of a chosen succulent in a natural environment. Succulent specimens will be provided to draw from life along with photo reference materials. *Basic understanding of watercolor and/or colored pencils techniques advised.

Please bring you own easel setup or easels are available.   If you prefer to sit when you paint, a table top easel will be fine.

Painting: Open Studio

Sundays, July 29 – August 19 / 1 – 4 pm

Students will enjoy developing their painting techniques and skills in this observational open studio class.  Weekly subject matter will rotate between nude and clothed models and still-lifes. Each class will begin with brief instruction followed by an open studio format painting class. Students may use acrylic or oil paint. Dry media is also welcome.

Watercolor Techniques: Batik Method on Rice Paper

Saturday, September 15 / 10 am – 4 pm

Take your watercolors to the next level with this fun method of using the batik method of applying hot wax to save and build layers of color. Together, we will create a painting on rice paper, which adds an extra element of interest and texture. Instructor will guide students through the batik process, while assisting each student with color mixing, composition and values to create a focal point in their work. A fairly simple drawing will be provided by the instructor for students to use, but students are also free to bring a reference image to draw out on their own. A working knowledge of watercolor painting is preferred; this class is not for absolute beginners.
