Camera Basics for DSLR and Mirrorless Cameras
This class is designed for beginning to intermediate photographers who have purchased a digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera or a mirrorless camera. Course participants will explore the specific features of DSLR or mirrorless cameras, as well as general photographic skills and techniques to make great pictures.

Laptop Lecture: Introduction to Lightroom
Adobe Lightroom Classic CC is quickly becoming the go to application for photographers of any experience level, but so many photographers are not using the application to the fullest potential. There are also features of Lightroom Classic CC that are best left to other applications, and those work arounds will be shown in class. From tethered shooting to advanced Develop module techniques, this class with get new Lightroom Classic CC users up and running, and advanced users taking advantage of features that will save time, and reduce frustration.

Students need to have a laptop with Lightroom Classic already install on the computer before class starts. Older versions of Lightroom will work, Lightroom 5 & 6, but some new features will not be available to students. Do be aware that there are two versions of Lightroom currently offered by Adobe, Lightroom , and Lightroom Classic. This class will be taught using the Classic version. If you have any questions please do not hesitate in asking. Files for the class will take up 6-8 GB of space, and students should have that amount of space free on their computers if they want to work along with the instructor.
Photography: Composition and Techniques
Take your photographs to the next level by learning proper composition and photography techniques. Students will learn the different ways to compose landscapes, still life’s and people, while also learning different techniques such as High Dynamic Range (HDR), panoramic stitching, long exposures, proper posing for people, working with photo filters and lighting terminology.

A DSLR or mirrorless camera, as well as their camera’s manual and any lenses that students own should also be brought to class. A fully charged battery and memory card are also necessary for class. Please also bring a tripod and shutter release cable.
Introduction to Portrait Lighting
If the thought of using artificial light intimidates you, or type of gear to use, this class is perfect for you. This class will start with the basics of lighting concepts, and the different types of light and gear to use for portrait, product or still life.
In class demonstrations will take the mystery out of using artificial light, followed by hands-on work with different lighting equipment, so students can see first-hand how to work and manipulate light.
Don’t worry about the cost of lighting, as demos and hands on work will include different lighting setups at different price points, which will help eliminate the cost barrier of working with lighting.
From continuous light sources to small flash, no matter the budget, students will leave class with a firm grasp of not only lighting techniques and terms, but also have a better sense of what direction they should go with lighting and gear purchases.

Required Gear: Students need to bring their cameras, lenses, charged batteries and manuals to class. If students already own lighting equipment, they can bring it to class for the hands-on portion of class.
Introduction to Astrophotography
Learn how to shoot the stars, and the moon in this new class for 2019. Students will discover what gear is required to make stunning astrophotography, as well as how to make the gear they own work to get the best shots possible.
The first two session of this class will involve in class discussion and demonstration, covering camera settings, lens selections, and additional gear needs. Plus post production solutions in Lightroom will be covered as well, showing what can be further enhanced after the picture has been taken.
The third and final class session will be out in the field. Due to the nature of this class, this will happen later at night and outside the Reno/Sparks area. Time and location will be announced on the first day of class, but students should expect to drive out of the area, no more than hours drive, and plan on working later in the evening.

Required Gear: The first-class sessions is demo only, but students are encouraged to bring their camera gear to the second session to double check settings and features during class. The third session will require students to bring their camera, lenses, charged batteries and manuals. A quality tripod is must for this course, but a few tripods are available to loan out if students have do not own by the third-class session.
