Students age 12 – 15 will explore a variety of art forms and dive into the world of visual art. Under the guidance of the instructor, students will learn foundational skills related to drawing, painting, collage and sculpture. Throughout this course, students will be introduced to contemporary and pop artists known for their work in these mediums. The skills learned in this class will help students understand the basics for future artistic endeavors. All supplies and a mid-class snack are provided.

Young Artist Series: Character Design and Development

The Young Artist Series is for kids ages 12 – 15*

Want to learn some of the secrets behind your favorite characters design and even create your own? This class will teach you some basic techniques used by character designers to help make your characters stand out through their design. If you love comic’s, video games, or just love characters this is the class for you. This is an open studio course designed to teach students how to ask questions and design your own character! From charismatic hero’s to dastardly villains and all the weirdness in-between come join artist C.J. Norris as he introduces you to the wonderful world of character design.

Young Artist Series: Intro to Ceramics – Artifacts

Kids ages 12 – 15 will have fun exploring the tactile nature of clay. In this 4 week course, the instructor will take the kids on a journey into the world of artifacts while creating ceramic versions of their own. Instruction will encompass hand building, including slab, coil work and sculpture. In addition, students will learn about glazing and the transformation of their pieces from the heat of the kiln. This will be a fun and educational class.  All works will be fired in the Museums’ kiln. Snack and materials are included.

Young Artist Series: Introduction to Glass Art

Teens ages 12 – 18 will have fun exploring the various techniques and versatility of glass art. In this 2 day workshop, students will explore the amazing world of kiln-formed glass art by utilizing clear and colored flat glass and recycled art glass. Additionally, students will learn torch and lamp working combining various tools and techniques.  Learn more about the process of designing, cutting, melting, and kiln-forming the glass…then annealing your finished pieces. Students will walk away with art works in the form of suncatchers, coasters, jewelry, beads and small sculptures. A mid class snack and all supplies provided.

Using a photo reference, the instructor will breakdown the steps to convert a photograph to a digital work of art. Students will learn the foundations and techniques of drawing and color theory, which can be applied to various practices and mediums in art.
