Kids’ Corner: Painting Techniques

Wednesdays, November 16 – December 14 / 3:30 – 5:30 pm

Young artists will enjoy exploring a variety of painting techniques using acrylic paint in this fun after-school series. Students will have the opportunity to explore the Museum’s exhibitions and sketch in the galleries before beginning their own works of art. All materials and a snack are included with registration.

Día de los Muertos: Sugar Skull Workshop (5:30 pm)

Friday, October 21 / 5:30 – 6:30 pm

Learn about the Mexican tradition of Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) and create and decorate colorful sugar skulls!  This centuries old tradition honors and celebrates the souls of those who have passed. This class will provide demonstration of the steps of making a sugar skull from scratch. Each student will receive two sugar skulls to decorate and take home.

Arte en Español

Thursdays, October 13 – November 17 / 4 – 4:45 pm 

Children ages 4 to 7 will have fun learning Spanish through play, music, games, books and art. Each day, we will begin with circle time and will end with an original art activity.

Art High: Portrait Painting from Photographs

Saturdays, October 15 – November 12 / 9:30 am – noon

Teens will explore portrait-painting techniques while using sourced photographic imagery as point of reference. Course lessons will be designed around acrylic painting techniques.  if students are interested in working in oil, please e-mail claire.munoz@nevadaart.org for suggested supplies.

Teens ages 13 – 18 will have fun exploring the tactile nature of clay.  Instruction will encompass basic hand building, throwing on the wheel, and sculpture.  In this 5 day intensive for teens, students will learn about the basics of pottery, glazing and the transformation of their pieces from the heat of kiln. This will be a fun and educational class.  All works will be fired in the Museums’ kiln. All materials are included.
