Summer Intensive: A Crash Course in Drawing Fundamentals

Monday – Friday, June 18 – 22 / 9 am – 12 pm

Students will enjoy this introductory level course designed to teach basic drawing techniques including rendering, figure drawing, and perspective. This class is designed to provide a foundation for drawing, teaching students how to realistically draw objects, environments and people. Each class will focus on different drawing techniques and strategies, beginning with rendering and shading objects in perspective to drawing a live model.

Drawing Techniques: The Still Life in Dry Media

Tuesdays, May 15 – June 5 / 1 – 4 pm

Students will enjoy this introductory level course designed to introduce student to dry media with a focus on the still life. Students will work on approaches to textures like glass, fabric and metals while exploring drawing techniques. This class is designed to provide a foundation for drawing, teaching students how to realistically render objects, texture and light.

Digitizing Hand Drawings with Illustrator

Wednesday, June 27 / 1 – 4 pm 

Learn to take your hand drawn artwork into digital format in this introduction to Adobe Illustrator using an iPad Pro. In this class, students will learn best practices for drawing design elements by hand. Students will review best practices for documenting work for digital manipulation and will be introduced to the tools in Illustrator that can be used to create professional results while maintaining the hand rendered quality of their work. Students will also review contemporary applications for their final digital artwork. 

NOTE: iPad Pro and Illustrator software is will be provided for students to use during class time.

Introduction to Repeating Patterns in Procreate

Wednesday, June 13 / 1 – 4 pm

Learn the basics of pattern design using an iPad Pro and the Procreate app! This class will give you a crash course in pattern design on an iPad, while teaching you how to build a seamlessly repeating pattern tile that can be uploaded to platforms like Spoonflower and Society6 to create one-of-a-kind custom products featuring your designs. Participants will brainstorm pattern ideas through digital sketching and will build repeating pattern tiles in an easy to follow, digital format.

Create a miniature pine needle basket using natural materials. Learn from the basket making tradition of Audrey Frank’s native Nevadan Washoe/Paiute culture. Explore weaving methods by combining pine needles, sinew and raffia in this one-day workshop.

Required Supplies: Small sewing scissors, small hand towel/dishtowel. Instructor to provide raffia, pine needles, thread.
