Laptop Lecture: Introduction to Lightroom

Wednesdays, January 24 – February 7 / 6 – 9 pm

Adobe Lightroom is quickly becoming the go to application for photographers of any experience level, but so many photographers are not using the application to the fullest potential. There are also features of Lightroom that are best left to other applications, and those work arounds will be shown in class. From tethered shooting to advanced Develop module techniques, this class with get new Lightroom users up and running, and advanced users taking advantage of features that will save time, and reduce frustration.

Supply list: A laptop is not necessary for this class, but having one will not hurt, as students can work along with the instructor during class. Files for the class will take up 6-8 GB of space, and students should have that amount of space free on their computers if they want to work along with the instructor.

Camera Basics for DSLR and Mirrorless Cameras

This class is designed for beginning to intermediate photographers who have purchased a digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera or a mirrorless camera. Course participants will explore the specific features of DSLR or mirrorless cameras, as well as general photographic skills and techniques to make great pictures.

Required Supplies: Students are required to bring have a DSLR camera or mirrorless camera as well as their camera’s manual. A fully charged battery and memory card are also necessary for class. Any lenses that they own should also be brought to class.

Hand Painted Ornaments

Sunday, December 10 / 1 – 4 pm

Inspired by her Czechoslovakian heritage, instructor Iva Neveux will introduce student to basic painting techniques to create beautiful holiday ornaments. Each student will create two hand-painted ornaments using combinations of dots, lines, dashes and curves.  All materials included with registration.

Oil Painting Techniques: Back to Basics

Wednesdays, January 17 – February 21 / 2 – 5 pm

Student new to oil or looking for a quick refresher will enjoy this introductory level course designed to teach basic oil painting techniques. Students will learn the properties of oil paint, application techniques, and color theory while recreating simple still life installations. Each class will focus on different painting techniques which will include a review of brushes and their function, blending techniques, color use and the grayscale and an introduction to textures.

The Art of Meditation

Thursdays, January 25 – February 15 / 5:30 – 6:30 pm

Meditation is a technique for inner peace and wellness. Meditation can be a cornerstone of a healthy, happy, productive life. Everyone can do it. This class is taught by an expert who has over 30 years of experience helping people just like you. It does not require concentration or any special skill. You will learn different techniques each week that you can take home and use on your own. All are welcome, from first-timers to advanced students.

OLLI Private Tour and Workshop at the Nevada Museum of Art

OLLI registrants are invited to spend the morning at the Nevada Museum of Art. Participants will enjoy a guided tour of the Museum’s current featured exhibitions. This tour will include an overview of “Marking the Infinite” featuring the work of nine of Australia’s leading Aboriginal women artists. The guided tour will be followed by a hands-on project inspired by contemporary Aboriginal painters. Focusing on aerial views of the landscape and simple mark making, participants will create a 9×12 painting inspired by the work on display. Museum admission, a guided tour and all materials are included with registration. No experience necessary. Registration is limited. Advanced registration is required.

Art Break for Kids

Thursday, January 11 / 9 am – 2 pm

Kids ages 7 – 12 will have fun exploring a variety of art mediums in this fun and interactive one-day workshop. Students will get their hands dirty in the classroom early in the morning and then and will practice their drawing skills while exploring the Museum’s galleries.  A mid-morning snack and all materials are included with registration.

*Students need to bring a cold-lunch and bottle of water.
