Kid Play in Clay: Christmas Ornaments

Little artists will enjoy playing in clay with their parents as they create Christmas ornaments while exploring the tactile qualities of clay. Little ones will create keepsake ornaments in this quick and messy class.

DSLR Camera Basics
Saturdays, September 23 and 30 / 10 am – 2 pm
This class is designed for beginning to intermediate photographers who have purchased a digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera, which is a camera with removable lenses. Course participants will explore the specific features of DSLR cameras, as well as general photographic skills and techniques to make great pictures.
Required Supplies: Students are required to bring have a DSLR camera, as well as their camera’s manual. A fully charged battery and memory card are also necessary for class. Any lenses that they own should also be brought to class.

Photography: Composition and Techniques
Saturdays, October 7 and 14 / 10 am – 2 pm
Take your photographs to the next level by learning proper composition and photography techniques. Students will learn the different ways to compose landscapes, still lifes and people, while also learning different techniques such as High Dynamic Range (HDR), panoramic stitching, long exposures, proper posing for people, working with photo filters and lighting terminology.

A DSLR camera, as well as their camera’s manual and any lenses that students own should also be brought to class. A fully charged battery and memory card are also necessary for class. A tripod and shutter release cable are highly recommended.
Photography: Perfecting Your Prints
Tuesday, October 17 / 6 – 9 pm
No matter how you capture an image, the end game is always a gorgeous looking print to display or sell. But in the digital world, there are many hurdles that can stand in your way from getting the color, tone and sharpness you want in your finished work. This 3-hour workshop will walk you through the steps to get that final product you want, from capturing your image, to setting up your printer, or working with an offsite printer. Concepts of color spaces, profiles, resolution and challenges with print media will be covered in this class.

Photography: Lighting Basics
Saturday, November 4 / 10 am – 2 pm
Using artificial lighting can be one of the most intimidating parts of photography. Students will gain an understanding of the various terms and techniques, what type of gear to buy, the basics of lighting. In this 4-hour workshop, classic lighting techniques and setups will be demonstrated, as well as the different types of gear required to make perfect lighting, on any budget. Students will see live demonstrations of portrait and still life lighting techniques. This class is a perfect starting point for those interested in lighting, those buying their first lighting equipment, as well as a great starting point for more advanced classes in lighting.

Laptop Lecture: Introduction to Lightroom
Saturdays, November 11 and 18 / 10 am – 2 pm
Adobe Lightroom is quickly becoming the go to application for photographers of any experience level, but so many photographers are not using the application to the fullest potential. There are also features of Lightroom that are best left to other applications, and those work arounds will be shown in class. From tethered shooting to advanced Develop module techniques, this class with get new Lightroom users up and running, and advanced users taking advantage of features that will save time, and reduce frustration.
Supply list: A laptop is not necessary for this class, but having one will not hurt, as students can work along with the instructor during class. Files for the class will take up 6-8 GB of space, and students should have that amount of space free on their computers if they want to work along with the instructor.

Photoshop: Retouching Images
Tuesday, November 28 / 6 – 9 pm
Students will gain an understanding of retouching techniques to enhance both portraits and landscape photographs. Improve textures, fix “problem areas,” and gain an understanding of industry trade secrets to add to your toolbox.

Photoshop: Making Color Corrections
Tuesday, December 5 / 6 – 9 pm
Learn the secrets to color correcting, including color calibration, color profiles and color modes to create more dynamic images. Avoid common mistakes in taking your images from the camera to the computer to the printer. Gain an understanding of industry trade secrets to add to your toolbox.

Miniature Pine Needle Baskets
Sunday, August 20 / 10 am – 2 pm
Create a miniature pine needle basket using natural materials. Learn from the basket making tradition of Audrey Frank’s native Nevadan Washoe/Paiute culture. Explore weaving methods by combining pine needles, sinew and raffia in this one-day workshop.

The Art of Meditation
Wednesdays, September 13 – October 4 / 12 – 1 pm
Meditation is a technique for inner peace and wellness. Meditation can be a cornerstone of a healthy, happy, productive life. Everyone can do it. This class is taught by an expert who has over 30 years of experience helping people just like you. It does not require concentration or any special skill. You will learn different techniques each week that you can take home and use on your own. All are welcome, from first-timers to advanced students.
