iPhone Photography: Portraiture

Learn to shoot high quality portraits using your iPhone. With the fast-growing quality of cell phone cameras, photography has become a much more accessible form of art. This class will go over the fundamentals of portraiture, lighting and an editing workflow specific to the iPhone software, as well as printing 1-2 4×6 images directly from your phone. Although this class is based around the iPhone software other smartphones are welcomed as the fundamentals of photography will still apply.

Collaging is the art of sticking various different materials such as photographs, pieces of paper or fabric on to a backing. In this class, students will learn about the aesthetics of collage, melding the ideas of reality and fiction as the instructor guides them through the process of creating their own piece using everyday materials. 

Supplies are provided, but feel free to bring any materials you’d like to incorporate into your collage piece.

Participants will walk away from the course with an edition of their own multi-layered screen prints with one-of-a-kind designs.

If you’re a beginner or someone who needs a refresher, this class is for you!  Students will learn basic sewing machine mechanics and accessories, sewing machine control and coordination (sewing in lines, curves and corners), basic hand sewing and stitches, fabric and notion selection, proper cutting techniques, and how to start designing and executing  your own sewing projects. 

Note: The Museum School has Singer Brilliance 6180 brand sewing machines, tools and fabric for students to use but please feel free to bring your own machine and supplies if you’d like.

Alterations 101: Learn to Hem and Repair Shirts or Blouses

Do you have a piece of clothing that you’ve always wanted to fix or alter? This is the class for you! This class will focus on the heming or repairing of dress shirts or blouses. Students will work under the guidence of the instructor and learn introductory techniques for heming and repairing your clothing. Students will focus on learning to take measurements and then alter or repair the shirts. Some experience is helpful but not necessary.

Note*: The museum has sewing tools and machines for students to use but please feel free to bring in your machine or any other tools you may have that you are comfortable with using.
