Intro to Needle Felting: Sparkly Swan

Join us for this needle felting workshop, where each student will create a “sparkly white swan.”  Beginning with wire armature and adding wool and sheep locks, each student will leave with a three-dimensional swan that fits in the palm of their hand. This workshop is perfect for beginner and experienced needle felters. All supplies are provided.

Learn to shoot high quality landscape photos using your iPhone. With the fast-growing quality of cell phone cameras photography has become a much more accessible form of art. This class will go over the fundamentals of landscape photography, lighting and an editing workflow specific to the iPhone software, as well as printing 1-2 4×6 images directly from your phone. Although this class is based around the iPhone software other smartphones are welcomed as the fundamentals of photography will still apply.

Summer Break Camp: S.T.E.A.M for Curious Minds

Students age 7 – 11 will expand their skills in critical thinking, problem solving, and collaboration while exploring the intersection between science, technology, engineering, art, and math in this dynamic camp. Through the process of creating art, students will experiment in physics, circuitry, electronics and so much more! Students will engage in hands-on activities that are designed to challenge them to discover, plan, build, investigate and analyze, so they can continue to grow to become fearless creators and innovators. All supplies and a mid-camp snack are provided.

Teen’s age 12 – 15 will learn the versatility of this multi faceted medium! Using color theory and form, this camp will focus on  different styles and techniques of painting each day. Color mixing will be an important aspect during camp as well as awareness of composition. Students will create a different piece of art each day and will come away from camp with an understanding of how to construct a painting. All supplies and a mid-camp snack will be provided.

Clay: Earthworks

Create decorative and functional pottery in this six-week class designed for the beginner as well as those who have taken intermediate pottery classes in the past. Students will learn how to work with clay in both hand building, and wheel-throwing techniques. Finishing methods such as decorating, stamping, painting, and staining will be introduced as well as the discussion and practice of firing and glazing of clay works. Stoneware clay will be used and cone 6 and cone 06 glazes will be available. All firings will be done by the museum in an electric kiln. All materials are provided.

Kids ages 7 – 11 will have fun exploring the tactile nature of clay. Instruction will encompass basic hand building, throwing on the wheel, and sculpture. In this 5 day camp, students will learn about the basics of pottery, glazing and the transformation of their pieces from the heat of kiln. This will be a fun and educational class. All works will be fired in the Museums’ kiln. Snack and materials are included.
