Introduction to Glass Art: Torch Working and Beadmaking

Create beads and more in this hands-on introductory glass art course. Students will explore the amazing world of lampworking by utilizing clear and colored glass rods, along with various tools and techniques. Learn more about the process of melting, shaping, and forming the glass…then annealing your finished pieces. Additionally, students will learn about the science, history, technology, and culture of this unique medium.

Students will focus on:

1. Safety and material practices are covered and emphasized throughout this course.

2. Turning torches on and operating equipment, tools, and flame techniques. 

3. Participants will learn how to create bead forms while exploring various techniques, applications, and styles. 

4. Students will have open studio time to create their own work after learning the basics.

All supplies are provided.

Young Artist Series: Introduction to Visual Art

Students age 12 – 15 will explore a variety of art forms and dive into the world of visual art. Under the guidance of the instructor, students will learn foundational skills related to drawing, painting, collage and sculpture. Throughout this course, students will be introduced to contemporary and pop artists known for their work in these mediums. The skills learned in this class will help students understand the basics for future artistic endeavors. Mastering the Elements of the Landscape: How to Paint Running Water in Oils

Paint the landscape with more confidence by mastering the elements of it. This class is part of the Mastering the Elements of the Landscape Series. This course will focus on painting realistic running water, from the slower moving water of a river to the fast moving waterfall. Mike will lead students through four projects discussing and demonstrating all aspects of running water.

Paint the landscape with more confidence by mastering the elements of it.  This class is part of the Mastering the Elements of the Landscape Series. This course will focus on painting rocks and cliffs, elements that many landscape painters struggle with. In this course students will learn about achieving realistic form and texture in rocks and cliffs enabling them to paint them more realistically.  Mike will lead students through four projects discussing and demonstrating how to paint everything from smooth river rocks to jagged cliffs and everything in-between.

Finger painting is wonderful for the development of color recognition, experimentation and color mixing and is terrific for developing creativity.
