Textile Marbling on Scarves

Witness this magical process that transfers the paint from the surface of the water to a silk scarf. In this one-day workshop, Pietro will show students how to print on silk scarves using an array of different patterns and colors that you can choose from.  After some guided practice with some of your  favorite colors, students will have the opportunity to paint 2 beautiful scarves.

Box Making: Hatch-top Box

Handmade boxes are not only lovely, they are also quite useful and can be used to store a range of objects, not just books. Using hard board or masonite and marbled fabric, the instructor will walk students through the basics of creating decorative boxes. Expanding on these primary box building skills, students will learn about more complex functions by adding a hatch-top and bottom drawer. This particular structure also features rounded corners giving a pleasing twist to the standard pointed corner. Everyone will leave with a multi-purpose box that is ready to use with its rounded corners, top compartment under the hatch lid, and fabric covering.

Summer Watermelons in Watercolor

Capture the beauty of summer watermelons.  Using the techniques of wet on wet watercolors, students will  learn to create pictures and cards using a loose and expressive approach.  This class is open to all levels.

  • Watercolor pallet including your favorite reds, yellows and blues
  • Watercolor brushes including a 1” flat and a #6 OR # 8 round brushes
  • Graphite or mechanical pencil
  • Kneaded eraser
  • Tracing paper
  • 2 plastic water containers
  • Pad of Arches cold press 140 lb watercolor paper (9”x12” or larger)
  • Roll of paper towels

 

Sewing: Zippered Bag Workshop

Ever need a zippered bag to keep something small safe and organized? Whether its for pencils, make-up, stickers, glasses or just a thoughtful gift, zippered bags come in handy all the time. In this workshop, students will make a small, zippered bag. With the guidance of the instructor students will have the choice to make it waterproof and durable or soft or even shiny, you bring the fabric and we’ll make a bag! 

Note: The Museum School will have a limited number of Singer Brilliant 6180 sewing machines for students to use but you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer.

Sewing 101: Learn Your Machine

Learn sewing machine basics with your machine. Bring in your recently serviced sewing machine and we will help you build a relationship starting with the basics. This class covers: threading the machine, threading the bobbin, making a bobbin, thread varieties, needle varieties and uses, foot selection, stitch varieties and purposes, steering techniques, ways to mend a hole on a sewing machine and sewing machine maintenance. 

If you do not have a machine but are interested in learning, we do have a limited selection of machines for use.

Sewing: Tote Bag Workshop

Never forget your grocery bag again! In this workshop, students will make a one-of-a-kind grocery tote. The instructor will guide students through the process on making a tote that will suit all your needs. Made with industrial fabric, these double-sided totes will be sturdy, stylish and of course life and planet saving. Some knowledge of sewing is needed. 

Note: The Museum School will have a limited number of Singer Brilliant 6180 sewing machines for students to use but you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer.

The Art of Meditation

Meditation is a technique for inner peace and wellness. During this time of increased conflict and stress in our world, it is more important than ever to maintain our inner balance. Meditation can be a cornerstone of a healthy, happy, productive life. Everyone can do it. This class is taught by an expert who has over 30 years of experience helping people just like you. It does not require concentration or any special skill. You will learn different techniques each week that you can take home and use on your own. All are welcome, from first-timers to advanced students.
