Color Theory and Mixing Pigments in Watercolor

Watercolors are admired for their unique quality – translucence. Learn more about the pigments on your palette and experiment with mixing your own colors to keep the beautiful luminosity of the medium. Your personal watercolor pallet

Paper: 2 sheets 11 x 15 inches, 140 lb cold pressed watercolor paper (paper can be purchased from the instructor during class for $2 a sheet; we will use 2 or 3 sheets) 

  • Brushes: ½ or ¾ inch flat brush
  • Roll of paper towels
  • Drawing pencil
  • Kneaded eraser
  • 2 Plastic water containers 

 

Introduction to Watercolors

This class is designed for anyone who would like to explore the medium of watercolor without the commitment! Experiment with techniques such as glazing, masking, wet on wet, hard edges and much more. Find out if watercolor is for you. This class is also good for beginners who would like to play with watercolor techniques in an instructive setting. No experience necessary.

The Art of Meditation

Meditation is a technique for inner peace and wellness. During this time of increased conflict and stress in our world, it is more important than ever to maintain our inner balance. Meditation can be a cornerstone of a healthy, happy, productive life. Everyone can do it. This class is taught by an expert who has over 30 years of experience helping people just like you. It does not require concentration or any special skill. You will learn different techniques each week that you can take home and use on your own. All are welcome, from first-timers to advanced students.

Create  suncatchers and coasters in this hands-on introductory glass art course. Students will explore the amazing world of kiln-formed glass art by utilizing clear and colored flat glass and recycled art glass, along with various tools and techniques. Learn more about the process of designing, cutting, melting, and kiln-forming the glass…then annealing your finished pieces. Additionally, students will learn about the science, history, technology, and culture of this unique medium. All supplies are provided. 

Students will focus on:

1. Safety and material practices are covered and emphasized throughout this course.

2. Techniques for handling glass, using tools, and operating equipment. 

3. Participants will learn how to create fused glass forms while exploring various techniques, applications, and styles.

Create pendants, earing’s, or rings in this hands-on introductory glass art workshop. Students will explore the amazing world of kiln-formed glass art by utilizing clear and colored flat glass and recycled art glass, along with various tools and techniques. Learn more about the process of designing, cutting, melting, and kiln-forming the glass. The instructor will adhere students work to the proper backings once pulled from the kiln and an email will be sent informing students when they can pick up their work. All supplies are provided. 

Students will focus on:

Create decorative and functional pottery in this six-week class designed for the beginner as well as those who have taken intermediate pottery classes in the past.  Students will learn how to work with clay in both hand building, and wheel-throwing techniques. Finishing methods such as decorating, stamping, painting, and staining will be introduced as well as the discussion and practice of firing and glazing of clay works. Stoneware clay will be used and cone 6 and cone 06 glazes will be available.  All firings will be done by the museum in an electric kiln. All materials are provided.

Improve your life drawing skills and explore a variety of media while working freely from a nude model in this popular open studio class. The instructor will be present to coordinate class and offer instruction upon request. Both male and female models will be posed and drawn.

The following are suggested basic supplies – all media are welcome, so please bring whatever supplies you need for whichever media you are using.

  • Drawing board – 20”x 26” or larger (light-weight masonite works best)
  • Newsprint pad – 18”x 24” – rough surface recommended
  • Bull dog clamps or similar to attach pad to board
  • Medium and Support Items:
  • Vine charcoal, thin and fat pieces
  • Choice of conte crayon, 6B graphite pencil or sticks, china marker, compressed charcoal, carbon pencils, or any suitable medium for drawing on newsprint
  • Large kneaded eraser
  • Pink pearl eraser
  • Portable pencil sharpener or utility knife (best for soft/medium pencils)
  • Clean small rags
  • Sandpaper pad for sharpening drawing mediums
  • Stumps for blending (optional)
