The OutWest Film Fest celebrates Queer Film from around the world with sixteen films from ten countries in Short Film, Documentary and Feature Film Categories. 

Session 1: Documentary Films from 2-4 pm.  The six films in this category include the winning film: Black Rainbow Love along with selected films TRANSPARENTE, I AM, Cut Your Hair, Sex Tapes: Lessons from a 7ft Penis & Friends, and Queer Is A Tender Feeling.

Session 2: Short Films will be screened from 5-7 pm including the Winning Short Film MINT TEA as well as Constellations, Coffee & water, Come Out, Domesticated Animals, Wolf Tone, Clover, Eddy, and It’s Late.

*NOTE: Tickets to each session are sold separately. Join us for one or both sessions at the Museum on the 15th. The third session for Winning Feature Film screening of Last Gasp – Brokeback Fields Chapter One directed by Robert Pagan will be shown at Our Center (located at 1745 S Wells Ave Reno, NV 89502) on Sunday, October 16th at 6 pm.

The 2022 Sundance Film Festival Short Film Tour is a 95-minute theatrical program of 7 short films curated from the 2022 Sundance Film Festival short film program, including three titles that won Festival awards. Considered the premier showcase for short films and the launchpad for many now-prominent independent filmmakers, the Festival includes fiction, documentary and animation from around the world. Throughout its almost 40 years of history, the Festival has always supported short films, providing a platform for both established and new filmmakers to connect with audiences. The 2022 Short Film Tour program is a sampling of Festival offerings and a testament to the unique storytelling potential that the format holds. Audiences who missed the Sundance Film Festival – which took place online and in-person in 7 cities across the country from January 20 through January 30 this year – can enjoy a mix of fiction, documentary, and animated shorts that are funny, sad, inspirational, and full of strong characters. 

In his acclaimed debut as a filmmaker, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson presents a powerful and transporting documentary—part music film, part historical record created around an epic event that celebrated Black history, culture and fashion. Over the course of six weeks in the summer of 1969, just one hundred miles south of Woodstock, The Harlem Cultural Festival was filmed in Mount Morris Park (now Marcus Garvey Park). The footage was largely forgotten–until now. Summer of Soul shines a light on the importance of history to our spiritual well-being and stands as a testament to the healing power of music during times of unrest, both past and present. The feature includes concert performances by Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Sly & the Family Stone, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Mahalia Jackson, B.B. King, The 5th Dimension and more.

Summer of Soul is presented in partnership with Northern Nevada Black Cultural Awareness Society.

In 1906, Goldfield was Nevada’s largest and most prosperous city and the epicenter of America’s last great gold rush. On September 3rd of that year, Baltimore’s Joe Gans, the first African American champion, defended his lightweight crown against Oscar “Battling” Nelson, a white brawler, in a fight that had no scheduled duration. It was a fight to the finish.

In this film, documentary filmmaker Ted Faye introduces the story by exploring Goldfield at its boom, the impact, and importance of the fight, and the way in which residents have memorialized its history.

Film is approximately 30 minutes in length. A panel discussion will follow the screening and includes Kenny Dalton, President, Our Story, Inc., Dr. Elisabeth Raymond, Professor of History, Emerita, UNR, Mike Martino, Nevada Boxing Consultant, and filmmaker, Ted Faye.

The 2021 Sundance Film Festival Short Film Tour is a 92-minute theatrical program of 7 short films selected from the 2021 Sundance Film Festival program, widely considered the premier showcase for short films and the launchpad for many now-prominent independent filmmakers for close to 40 years. Including fiction, documentary, and animation from around the world, the 2021 program offers new audiences a taste of what the Festival offers and shows that short films transcend traditional storytelling. 

In this film premiere, dancers travel to five different Nevada locations, coming to terms with a year that has felt like five. Felt Like Five features original poetry, choreography by Caitlin McCarty and Leslie Balzer, in a film featuring performances by Collateral & Co. dance artists.

This program will also be streamed live via zoom. All registrants will receive a link before the program.
