Anthony McCall is a British-born, New York-based artist known for creating immersive, “solid light” installations, which occupy a space between sculpture, cinema and drawing. McCall’s work is represented in numerous collections, including, Tate, London; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York and  SFMoMA, amongst others. McCall’s new solid light installation is part of the Nevada Museum of Art’s Contemporary Collection and is on view July 30–January 8. Join us as McCall discusses his newest work followed by a walk-through of the exhibition.

From the creative mind of Jessi LeMay comes the storytelling and narrative filmmaking project The Folk & the Lore. This multimedia project aims to collect, archive, and tell stories from Reno and throughout the region through photography, short films, and live storytelling events that will be held regularly at the Nevada Museum of Art. Together, we believe that when you know your neighbor’s story, not only do you feel more connected to your community, but those stories become part of your own. Join this event for an evening of storytelling and films centered around the theme of “Secret Lives.”

Curator of Art and Civilization at the Reading Public Museum, Scott Schweigert is the curator of the exhibition American Impressionism: The Lure of the Artists’ Colony and is a specialist in European art of the seventeenth century. Join Schweigert for a discussion on the emergence of artists’ colonies during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries as it relates to the American Impressionists.  Learn more about the effect that these colonies had on artists’ creativity, including the ability to collaborate, teach, and experiment in their work.  American Impressionism: The Lure of the Artists’ Colony features a large collection of oil paintings and works on paper from the collection of the Reading Public Museum. American Impressionism: The Lure of the Artists’ Colony will be on view at the Nevada Museum of Art May 14 – August 14, 2016.
