Scope and Content

The archive consists of materials produced in the creation of the 501(c)3 non-profit organization and materials created during the activities of the organization. These activities consist of workshops, residencies, exhibitions-whether in the gallery space or at the outdoor site-and events, all designed to provide practicing artists the opportunity to work and exhibit in New Mexico.

The first exhibition, aptly named First Show, was mounted in 1998. Subsequently, group exhibitions were held at an average rate of 1-2 per year until a hiatus from 2005 through 2007. In 2008, THE LAND began to produce several exhibitions per year, and expanded upon the previous format by including single artist shows. THE LAND also offers residency opportunities, and materials from several residencies are included in this archive. Not just limited to the visual arts, THE LAND also offers opportunities to writers and musicians through events and workshops.

The materials in the archive "THE LAND/an art site" consist of organizational documents, press materials, artist proposals, workshop materials, exhibition materials such as exhibition catalogs, project planning notes, drawings, schematics, maps, audio and visual files, photographs, slides, and small exhibition books and objects.
