Michael Bisbee grew up in rural Massachusetts, earned a BFA from Boston University, and had an active studio practice and exhibition record from 1987 through 1993. In 1994 he closed his studio and “was engaged primarily in unsponsored projects related to Land Art in the Hudson Valley NY, miscellaneous associated photography projects, and poetry.” Bisbee moved to New Mexico from New York and re-opened a studio in May 2009. He currently resides in the small town of Magdelena not far from the Very Large Array and The Lightning Field.
Scope and Content
Bisbee was an artist-in-residence at THE LAND/an art site property where he completed four separate but related projects that created a place-based practice through photography, found-object sculptures, and explorative walking performances. He then was given a solo exhibition at THE LAND’s gallery in Albuquerque in 2012. Materials include photographs, found object sculpture, exhibition ephemera, and project documentation.
