A Legacy of Service

James Richardson shares reflections on a career in the military industry including the U.S. Army and Army National Guard. Currently serving at the Nevada Department of Veteran Services, Richardson will discuss opportunities for service and community building both in active duty and at home. 

Northern Nevada Science and Technology Festival – Art & Science Explored

Join the Desert Research Institute and the Nevada Museum of Art and explore a variety of family-friendly, hands-on STEAM activations for all ages. Investigate soil after wildfires, engage with science-based art projects, experience the magic of robotics, and more! UNR’s @one will share a special VR experience and Arrow Electronics will host hands on activities.

The Arts in Military Service

Join us for a conversation about the role art plays in healing, led by combat veteran Noel Lipana. Lipana currently serves as the Regional Prevention Coordinator for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security; however, outside of that role, Lipana educates communities about moral injury and trauma among veterans and marginalized communities through the lens of the performing arts. 

Turning Pages Book Club: There, There by Tommy Orange

Join Museum volunteer docents for a discussion of a book making connections to current exhibitions and artists featured at the Museum. Participants should have completed the book prior to meeting. The Art of Ben Aleck features more than thirty works, this exhibition honors the career of artist Ben Aleck, a lifelong educator and enrolled member of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe (Kooyooe Tukadu/cui-ui fish eaters.)

RUMBLE: The Indians Who Rocked the World

This revelatory documentary film brings to light the profound and overlooked influence of Indigenous people on popular music in North America. Focusing on music icons like Link Wray, Jimi Hendrix, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Taboo (The Black Eyed Peas), Charley Patton, Mildred Bailey, Jesse Ed Davis, Robbie Robertson, and Randy Castillo, RUMBLE: The Indians Who Rocked the World shows how these pioneering Native American musicians helped shape the soundtracks of our lives.

Musician, Pura Fé who is featured in the film, will introduce the evening.
